The site is really nice, but I think it could use a bit more info on the characters and maybe pics. The forum looks kind of empty at the moment, but I think that in a few months it's going to grow a lot.
Good luck in the future!

The Landsraad Dune Group presents:
"Houses of the Landsraad Dune RPG"
It is the year 4935 A.G.
More than 4000 Years Before Muad'dib ...
The universe has been in turmoil. A vast civil war waged on the Imperium as Sardaukar warlords declared a Republic and dictated policy to the royal houses, as there was no indisputable heir to the Imperial throne. For 100 years, the universe has had no enduring emperor, but that changed with the recent coronation of Padishah Emperor Saudir Corrin XIII. Although nearly every faction in the Imperium at one time underestimated and aligned against the young emperor in his bid for legitimacy, most power groups switched sides when it became either convenient or necessary.
Your goal as a royal leader or powerful faction is to survive and thrive in these precarious times. With a new sense of stability and order, all the old power groups look to finally accelerate their plans as old vendettas and motives surface. After a century of brutal Sardaukar rule, the Great and lesser houses of the Landsraad desire a greater stake in the growth and stability of the Imperium. CHOAM shares, economic charters, and imperial fiefs are to be claimed by the ancient power groups; but can they coexist and curry favor with an Emperor backed by the Sardaukar military which oppressed the royal houses for 100 years?
You will decide …
In the Houses of the Landsraad RPG, players will portray leaders of royal houses or as members of ancient power groups. The game will consist of two-week turns; at the start of each turn, players accumulate solari from their planetary fiefs or economic charters. During the turn (or House Interval) players may then accumulate personnel, military, structures, equipment, and spice; players may also interact with other players by way of official game rites, meaning they can become involved in intrigue, diplomatic situations, and battles and duels- much like the royal houses in the duniverse of Frank Herbert’s Dune novels. Players write stories about their royal household characters and hopefully the gaming aspects of the RPG creatively inspire their writing.
Auditions are happening now!

I've almost read Dune 1-5 and I really think, that Frank Herbert was able to write the history of another world, another Universe. In God Emperor of Dune the philosophical background was very strong and some people might find it boring but I think it suits the Dune Universe and it makes it easier to understand.

I like your web page, but I disagree about the B.G Motives. The Bene Gessirt wern't able to effect all affairs, and as you learn in later DUNE novels that the Atreides line can not be seen with prescience, thus the Bene Gessirt are not to blame for a possible folley of the Muad'Dib incident on DUNE. They would see a void, a place where they could nolonger control events. Another thing to note is that in later novels the Bene Gessirt are still in control, and having more subsantial effect.
Your site might also focus to much on Paul, think of the other brillant Ateides, Leto II (Or third which ever you prefer), Duncan Idaho (Who even though not an Atreides was first to see the high-beings at the end of Chapterhouse, and most of all Teg, who could clear a room of Bene Gessirt in a heart beat. These Atreides should not be left out, nor should the importance of the later novels be over looked.
A good thing about this site is that it keeps away from the illegitament spin offs by Frank Herbert's son Brian. He cannot prove without the notes, which he has manage to greedily hold on to for so long, varify that his prequals are correct, if Frank Herbert thought such things were so important than he would have written more about them.
Thank you, AgamemnonAtreides

Anyone else think it's really cute how Leto and Ghanima are really 9 frinking years old?! I mean come on. They should have done that in the mini series. I know it would have been hard for two nine year olds to act out those parts but I think it would have descride them much better.
For the movie...oh come on! They left so much out. What the hell! I'm on children of dune and it still hasn't RAINED!!!!

I can't seem to read any books after Dune Children. Everything gets really boring or dragged out. I can't concentrate. Sometimes I feel that I don't want to know the rest of the stories because the three Dune, Dune Messiah, and Dune Childre were great. Dune God Emperor-I have read halfway and can't seem to finish it. Somebody out there tell me that it is worth reading. PS-Saw the new mini-series and I think that they potray Lady Jessica wrong, she was as bad as her abomination daughter, anybody agree?

Any time I keep searching for dunestuff,I feel like an anachronistic nerd. But the book gave so much to me,the world of Dune is that awesome and still like to play all the games based on Dune(PC and of course the boardgames).I'm really glad that I'm not the only freak, but it seems we're of a dying breed.I still think the David Lynch film is the best visualisation of the book. With movies like lord of the rings in mind a new version seems to be a good idea(a triology of course),but without Kyle MacClachlan and Sting I don't thing it could match up with the old one.

in preparation for a jodorowsky promotion i came across this site. We'll b offereing his comic books on our website at a discount to introduce american fanst to his books.
on his film version of dune, not only did giger work on the movie, butr also moebius. the collaboration proved so fruitful that they decided to do a comic together and did The Incal. Incidntally, moebius and Giger were founders of our French Company, Les Humanoides ASsocies.

I just saw the frank herbert version of dune, it pales in comparison to the original version by David Lynch. the new version was deficient of good acting, and good special effects. The sound track of the newer version does not remotely compare to the original version. I did, however, appreciate the level of detail in the story of newer version. i would like to see another verion with the same costumes, special effects, and sound track of the original version, with quality actors, and the amount of detail in the story as the new version. I think one of the houses should be black. my pick would be house atreides. just my opinion ;)

At risk of sounding obsessive, I can't stop reading the books. I really think the Brian Herbert's books are weak compared to his father's work, but I read them anyway. I absolutely can't stand the Sci-fi mini-series. I think they got it all wrong and both the costumes and dialog are just stupid. I think Lynch's film got it pretty much correct. I believe he did the best he could with such a long and complex novel. I love websites like this. Keep it up!

Great site!!! Im new to Dune but this is really great.
Ok. I have only recently been introduced into the world of Dune ...even though it has been around for awhile. I decided to start with the new works from Herberts son and partner, because his books are supposed to predate his Fathers works on Dune. Starting with House Atredies, Harkonnen and then Corrino...This I'm sure you all know already. My question to anyone reading this...is at the end of House Corrino, the Harkonnen Mentat Piter is killed by a Bene Gesserit. Now this book is supposed to be the one just before DUNE. But in Dune he ( Piter ) is back and there is no mention of the Tleilaxu having recently sent him to the Baron as a replacement.
Can anyone explain this ?
Thanks

The best Dune page I've seen. I'm reading the sixth novel right now... Herbert really was a mastermind, creating all those houses and stuff. I like his vision of religions in dune :). Ghani is my favourite character on Dune series. Real pitty there wasn't much about her in other books than the third one.
The last dune game Isn't yet reviewed. I'd like to see something about Emperor:Battle for Dune.

The only critic I could do is to try to improve the graphic aspect of this site, maybe with some background image.
The use of other fonts other than Arial would also work pretty well: the problem of visualization can be overcome by putting simple JPG images on buttons where writings should be. A font that works great is Percolator Expert (the 'DUNE' writing on http://www.scifi.com/dune/).
As far as contents go, the site is simply excellent. The possibility you give us fans to share our imagination and liking of the Dune universe is a very nice initiative.
And the collection of Dune quotes is simply a splendid idea.
As far as books go: I loved God Emperor of Dune, and the character of Siona, but I also have to say that the Bashar Miles Teg is another great character.

I think that it is folly to worship ANY book, ANYBODY or ANYTHING, but it seems that sometimes a man just doesn't fully understand what he is creating. It is not bad or good. It doesn't necessarilly mean that he is a prophet and what he is doing is just relating God's words. It is just a possibility - it just possible to create something bigger than original design.
I read (not much yet) articles on Dune, I read some interviews with Frank Herbert on the subject. There are discussions about many Dune ideas - messiah, ecology, politics, creation of religions, etc. Yet I haven't come across discussion of the role of Leto II. I think that one of the most magnificent ideas of the book is
the idea of sacrifice. Leto II decided to transform into almost immortal being, he accepted almost infinite loneliness. He became the "key log". To make the humankind immortal and infinite. The Scattering. I think that it can be compared to what Jesus Christ did - one of the main outcomes of his teachings was creation of the powerful Church. The Church (Inquisition) became the "key log", which was not removed, but which ignites striving for new discoveries. The outcome was Columbus - Discovery of America. Discovery of new lands and new hopes.
It all may seem to be farfetched. But ... I think that Frank Herbert was really prophetic (although I doubt that he intended to be, and I am not willing to organize a church of Herbet's worshipers ;) - the humankind at the present moment just don't have any unifying idea, if I can put it so. We urgently need to discover, to invent something which will give us an opportunity to travel in space. We need new Age of Great Discoveries. We need it in order not to eliminate ourselves. We already tried twice - in world wars I and II. Now we are very close to it again. We need something new and fresh.
It seems to me that Herbert managed to gather in one book (in six, actually) the idea of humankind's infinite striving for infinity - immortality. Striving - fighting. Always on the razor's edge. It is really a paradox that such book was designed mainly just as entertainment.

Live in peace and push your limits always further....

Sean,
If you were really drinking coffee with Frank Herbert in 1977 - what Frank thought about his creation then? It seems to me sometimes, that he didn't realise what a magnificent and infinite world he created. May be I am exaggerating, but it seems to me that the book (all 6) is one the most important philosophical work of the XX century. It is definitely more than just Sci-Fi.
Regards,
xq - salut, from Russia.
P.S. There is Dune quotes page on my site - www.xcurator.com/dune.html

Just had to get this out. I recently began reading the BH + KJA novels and just couldnt make it. This from someone who first read the Dune novels at the age of 12. I suppose deep down I knew what would happen if someone else revisited Frank Herberts universe but I so wanted to be wrong. The following quote I found illustrates quite admirably...
"DUNE: HOUSE HARKONNEN continues the addictive soap opera. The Harkonnens are villains par excellence."
—The Denver Post
To hear the Dune series referred to as an `addictive soap opera` is one of the saddest experiences of my life so far.
Thanks for your time.

Hi, I am a new guy to "Dune" but I really like the feeling when I was reading the related information about "Dune". Unfortunately, I couldn't get it in my country.
China. I don't know whether somebody out there could have a HTML or another kind of version or somewhere on the NET have such kinds of versions that I could read.
Please Indicate it!Thank You Guys.

The Dune series is a magnificent piece of work, and I have never found this website before. I have not had a chance to get a good look at it, but I hope to become a regular visitor.,...

Only just got around to reading the books after trying to when I was a kid. Fantastic, never thought anything would get near to Lord of the Rings, I was wrong. This is the first Dune site I've found that hasn't tried to sell me anything, Nice site, keep up the good work.

As much as I admire David Lynch, I think Dune would have been a more accomplished film with Jodorowsky directing it.

The original "Dune" is easily the best science-fiction book ever written. An excellent and potent blend of philosphy, politics and grasping imagery. Nearly as good as "The Bow"!
P.S. "Destination:Void" and "The Jesus Incident" are very good as well.

Paul Muad dib always cried out for those who had been disowned and who had suffered an injustice. to understand the universe one must make one's mind the Infinite. My heart throbs when i recall the battle against the Sardaukar , my heart throbs at paul's victory. A fascinating vein of Science Fiction Literature ,Frank Herbert has truly taught me a few things and a few lessons. Before I read i already knew he merely confirmed what I knew and taught me more. The Messiah of Dune will forever live on in my memory as long as my memory endures.
